CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) – The Cebu City government is planning to buy its own incinerator for the disposal of confiscated illegal drugs in the city and in the whole region.

This plan stemmed from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 7’s concern for the need for an incinerating machine they can use for the destruction of seized illegal drugs in the region.

During the recent Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) 7 meeting, PDEA-7 revealed that currently, the confiscated illegal drugs are incinerated through the machines of the funeral parlors.

Cebu City Mayor Alvin Garcia said that the region should have its own incinerator so they dispose of the confiscated drugs as soon as possible.

Kung naa tay kaugalingon (nga incinerator) kita mag-control. Mas maayo gyud na because anytime, at our pleasure, pwede nato masunog or ma-destroy ang mga illegal drugs. Instead of waiting for the availability of the funeral parlor’s incinerator, why not purchase our own,” he said.

(If we have our own incinerator, we can destroy the confiscated illegal drugs anytime, at our pleasure.)

Garcia said the city government is willing to allot funds of up to P5 million for the purchase of the incinerator.

He also requested the Philippine National Police to strictly strengthen border control and provide a K9 training center in Bogo City. (ZCL/PIA7)
