Celebrating the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood

LUNETA, MANILA ─ The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) will spearhead the celebration of the 126th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood with the theme ‘Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.’ on 12 June 2024 at Rizal Park, Luneta, Manila 8:00 AM.

The program shall start with a flag-raising ceremony to be led by His Excellency, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at the Independence flagpole, Jose Rizal Monument, Rizal Park, Manila.  This will be followed by wreath-laying rites, where the President will be accompanied by NHCP Chairperson Lisa Guerrero Nakpil and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. Arrival and departure honors will be provided by the AFP.

On 12 June 2024 in the afternoon, the much-awaited Parada ng Kalayaan 2024 will start at 3:00 PM, showcasing the different historical events which signified the start of our journey to Philippine independence. The first agencies established by the young Philippine Republic then, will also be featured along with their present-day agency counterparts.

Simultaneous flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies will also be done at the Dambanang Emilio Aguinaldo in Cavite, Barasoain Church Historical Landmark in Malolos City, Bulacan, Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine in San Juan City, Mausoleo delos Veteranos dela Revolucion in Manila North Cemetery, Andres Bonifacio National Monument in Caloocan City, and Museo ng Kasaysayang Panlipunan ng Pilipinas in Angeles City, Pampanga. Flag-raising rites will also be done in all twenty-eight (28) NHCP museums and local government units across the country.

From 10-11 June, are the Mga Pampamahalaang Programa at Serbisyo which will see more than 50 various government agencies and offices in 132 booths showcasing their products and services. Other components such as the Kadiwa ng Pangulo led by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will be selling fresh produce for both days, while the Klinikalayaan 2024 will feature free consultation and basic medical, dental and optical services.

Burnham Green Activities in front of the Quirino Grandstand will feature fun and entertaining events ranging from a chili-eating contest, music and dance concerts, cooking show, obstacle course, film showings, Kalye Kasaysayan and Love Lokal Tiangge, a flea market showcasing local products.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures. (NHCP)
