Central Luzon Shines in the World Travel Awards

As the world shifts its gaze toward new travel experiences, the Philippines is proudly stepping onto the international stage, especially with its Central Luzon region garnering attention for its unique offerings. 

The recent nominations for three destinations—Aurora Province, the City of San Fernando in Pampanga, and the Clark Freeport Zone—at the renowned World Travel Awards (WTA) highlight not only the beauty of these emerging sites but also the effectiveness of the National Tourism Development Plan 2023–2028.

In a press briefing at Malacañang on Monday, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro celebrated this achievement. 

She stressed that these nominations highlight the country’s increased efforts to promote well-known tourist destinations and hidden gems embodying the Philippines’ essence.

“Ang mga nominasyong ito ay patunay na epektibo ang direksyon ng National Tourism Development Plan 2023–2028 na layuning paunlarin hindi lamang ang mga kilalang destinasyon, kundi pati na rin ang mga bagong lugar na sumasalamin sa tunay na ganda ng Pilipinas,” Castro said, reinforcing the government’s commitment to enhancing the tourism landscape.

Aurora Province: Nature’s Paradise

Aurora Province, known for its beautiful beaches and eco-tourism, has been nominated as Asia’s Leading Regional Nature Destination, offering stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity for nature lovers and adventurers.

Natural wonders such as the stunning dips and curves of Dinadiawan Beach or the thrill of surfing will excite tourists in Baler, the birthplace of Philippine surfing. Its nomination represents a broader recognition of the Philippines as a haven for eco-tourism, poised to attract local and international travelers.

San Fernando: A Cultural Beacon

San Fernando City, the Christmas capital of the Philippines, is a vibrant cultural hub that celebrates the country’s rich traditions with grand parades and festive spirit during the holiday season. 

Nominated as Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination, San Fernando stands out for its historical landmarks, culinary delights, and thriving arts sceneThe city’s dedication to preserving culture and engaging the community makes it essential for those wanting a deeper connection with Filipino heritage.

The well-loved Giant Lantern Festival, drawing crowds each December, showcases the creativity and craftsmanship of the locals, further establishing San Fernando’s reputation as a cultural beacon.

Clark Freeport Zone: A Business Hub on the Rise

The Clark Freeport Zone is making waves as a fast-rising business hub and a potential hotspot for meetings and conferences. Nominated as Asia’s Leading Meetings and Conference Destination, Clark is positioning itself as a competitive player in the global business tourism sector. 

It features modern facilities, easy access, and diverse accommodation options, and it is an ideal venue for local and international events. The area offers a great mix of business and leisure options, attracting many visitors and showing flexibility and appeal.

The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, aims to celebrate excellence across all sectors of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. 

The nominations for Aurora Province, San Fernando, and the Clark Freeport Zone bring the total number of World Travel Award (WTA) citations for the Philippines to 10. This shows that the country is gaining more recognition on the world stage.

Castro noted that these accolades showcase the country’s rich cultural and natural heritage and the strength and resilience of its tourism sector.

“Tunay ngang sa bawat baybayin, pista, at pagpupulong, ang ganda ng Pilipinas ay kinikilala sa buong mundo,” said Castro, reflecting on the dynamic narrative of Filipino tourism.

As the Philippines continues to spotlight its emerging destinations and strengthen its tourism initiatives, the shining nominations from Central Luzon mark a significant milestone. 

The world is starting to see not just the breathtaking landscapes but the cultural richness and extraordinary hospitality the Philippines offers. This is just the beginning, and the journey ahead promises to unveil even more hidden archipelago treasures.
