CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) –Central Visayas recorded a 97.1-percent employment rate in 2024, up from the 95.4 percent in 2023.
At a recent press conference, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Region 7 announced the employment data based on the latest labor force survey (LFS).
Accordingly, regional data also showed the unemployment rate at 2.9 percent and the underemployment rate at 8.6 percent.
At the national level, the total labor force population saw an increase to 96.1 percent in 2024.
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) chief of Technical Support Services-Workers and Employment, Jessica Adlawan Uy, said the Business Processing and Outsourcing (BPO) companies ranked as top employers in the region based on their labor force survey of the industries.

Uy added that the industries that also topped are those under wholesale and retail trading, hotels and restaurants, manufacturing, and other services, including human resource outsourcing.
“The type of industries that hire more or a lot of job seekers include: the BPO, or business outsourcing; wholesale and retail trade; hotels and restaurants; manufacturing industries; and other services such as HR outsourcing. These are the top industries that hire job seekers,” said Uy.
Uy also encourages job seekers to develop soft and hard (technical) capacitation skills through the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) job fairs and programs.
“This time, we have active PESOs in different regions. It’s good that the job seekers approach our different public employment service offices because it is a free facility that DOLE is also supervising and giving them the capacity for skills and job opportunities. Our PESO managers are also equipped with different skills, such as a little DOLE that is also operating,” she added.
