VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) —The Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur championed responsible pet ownership and animal welfare through a pet training seminar and free consultation during the February 10, 2025 Ilocos Sur Festival.
Held at the Gregoria M. Rivera Memorial Library, the event provided free veterinary consultations, pet vaccinations, and educational sessions on dog psychology and basic communication.
In the Ammuentayo radio program on Feb. 10, provincial veterinarian Donna Rosario emphasized that these initiatives are part of the government’s ongoing anti-rabies vaccination campaign.
“If their pets are not yet vaccinated, we have these initiatives to encourage them,” Rosario said.
She added that those who missed the event can still visit the Provincial Veterinary Office on weekdays for free immunization.
Promoting pet welfare through education, community engagement
Beyond animal health services, the event focused on educating pet owners about proper animal care and behavior.
Experts discussed dog behavior, communication techniques, and animal welfare laws to promote responsible pet ownership.
Rosario also highlighted the “Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare,” which ensure pets are free from hunger, discomfort, pain, fear, and are allowed to express normal behavior.
Arjay Unciano, a devoted pet parent, expressed his gratitude for the initiative, thanking the provincial government of Ilocos Sur for organizing the event, which not only benefited their pets but also provided a fun experience for all fur parents.
“We would like to thank the provincial government of Ilocos Sur for having this event for our fur babies and for all the fur parents to have fun,” he said.
The Fur Parade and Pet Training Seminar served as an educational platform to promote responsible pet ownership and public awareness on animal care.
As Ilocos Sur strengthens its advocacy for pet welfare and rabies prevention, the provincial government encourages pet owners to remain proactive in ensuring their pets’ health and well-being. (CCMT/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
