PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) — The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) MIMAROPA eyes the internal merging of programs offered by Palawan State University (PSU) and Western Philippine University (WPU) to further boost the delivery of services.
CHED MIMAROPA Regional Director Edna Mae Fernandez-Legazpi said that this action will help strengthen the focus on particular campuses. However, it needs to undergo a series of thorough discussions and evaluations.
Some of the factors that need to be considered are the capacity of the university to sustain the program and the number of enrollees.
“At the same time, pagdating sa WPU at PSU, eventually ay possible amalgamation, merging; magkakaroon na ng pag-uusap. Hindi naman agad-agad… Marami pa pag-uusap na mangyayari; evaluate,” she said.
PSU currently conducts its evaluation on programs that might be closed or combined with other campuses, according to CHED.
Even though CHED has not yet visualized the complete picture of the plan, the emerging concerns that could be considered are in the programs including fisheries, agriculture, and hospitality and management.
Other courses will need to have “highly cerebral” meetings to see the details, she added.
“Mag-usap tayo [kung] sino ang pupwedeng mag-absorb ng mga estudyante para walang kompitensya sa mga campuses—Ano-ano ang campus na nag-o-offer para mas along mapalawak, maging strong ang delivery of services, kung magko-concentrate lang tayo sa certain campuses,” she said.
Meanwhile, PSU and WPU will also allocate spaces in respective universities for the satellite office of the CHED MIMAROPA. (RG/PIA MIMAROPA-Palawan)
