PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) — The City Council will work on immersing more with the barangays in Puerto Princesa by 2024 to craft more important resolutions as regular session closes Monday.
Vice Mayor Nancy Socrates said that 2023 “has been a good year” in terms of legislation for the City Council and acknowledged good resolutions passed, including the Gender and Development (GAD) code.
Socrates underscored the importance of council members working closely in barangays of the city to get “more meaningful and responsive legislation.”
“Actually, ang trabaho talaga ng Sanggunian, dapat talaga lumalabas kami sa barangay para nakikita kung ano ang kinakailangan on the ground. Doon mo makukuha ‘yong ideas for your resolutions and ordinances, I think ‘yon din naman ang plano ng karamihan na mas lumabas na sa mga barangay this coming year,” she said.
Socrates believed that staying at the office would limit the possible resolutions they could craft and would only work on what had been sent to them.
Asked about the 2024 filing of certificates of candidacy, Socrates said that it might affect some personal relationships, yet professionalism will remain. She has not yet provided details on her plans but is hoping for changes.
“I think certain personal relationships will be affected—I just go with the flow. I am preparing for changes, I am praying na everything will be smooth and wala maging conflict,” she said. (RG/PIA Mimaropa – Palawan)
