City of Koronadal Water District assures safe, excellent service

CITY OF KORONADAL, South Cotabato (PIA) — The City of Koronadal Water District (CKWD) assured Koronadaleños of its excellent service in providing a safe and sufficient water supply in the coming years.

During the recent episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, Atty. Benjie G. Espinosa, the General Manager of CKWD, clarified that their office is making every effort to ensure the water coming from CKWD is safe and potable for consumers.

“As far as the City of Koronadal Water District is concerned, mula noon hanggang ngayon hindi pa naman nakikitaan ng bacteria ‘yong aming tubig doon sa aming pipelines,” the official stressed.

(As far as the City of Koronadal Water District is concerned, from then until now, our water in the pipelines has not shown any signs of bacteria.)

He said their office strictly follows the guidelines set by the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water issued by the Department of Health, which include determining the presence of bacteria in the water through bacteriological, physical, and chemical tests.

Currently, the CKWD provides enough water supply to over 32,000 households from the city’s 27 barangays, with the exception of peak hours when water pressure is low.

Espinosa stated that the primary sources of the CKWD are the 27 deep wells and one spring, situated in various areas of Koronadal City.

These sources, he added, have a combined capacity of one million cubic meters per month, which is more than enough to supply 38,000 households, considering the growing population and increasing number of subdivisions in the city.

CWKD also plans to construct more water wells in 2025 to ensure a reserved water supply in anticipation of Koronadaleños future needs.

It is also exploring the possibility of constructing a surface water facility that would augment its water resources, using the Marbel River as a viable source.

He said, however, that this will require certain procedures and facilities “to treat the water to make it potable.” (SJDM – PIA Region 12)
