Class AA slaughterhouse opens in Ifugao

LAMUT, Ifugao (PIA) — A Class AA slaughterhouse worth more than P15.8 million was inaugurated at Banting, Mabato-bato, Lamut, that will help ensure clean and safe meat for the consuming public.

The construction of the facility was in line with the trust of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the local government to safeguard public health and support livestock production.

A slaughterhouse with Class AA classification has operational procedures sufficiently adequate that the livestock and fowls slaughtered therein are suitable for sale in any market, within the country.

The construction of the facility was started in 2017 and was only completed in January 2025 due to inadequate funds and technical knowledge and skills of the implementing offices of the local government unit.

Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Rolando Pila said residents of the municipality are now assured of clean and healthy meat because the animals that are butchered in the facility undergo inspection.

NMIS-CAR Regional Technical Director Dr. Domingo Gonzaga lauded LGU-Lamut for being the first municipality in the province to have a modern type Class AA slaughterhouse.

The facility would not have materialized without the full support of the NMIS regional office, the provincial local government unit, LGU officials and municipal employees and other partners.

He disclosed that the LGU will purchase a refrigerated van to be utilized in delivering meat to the market. (JDP/MBL-PIA CAR, Ifugao)

The Lamut Class AA slaughter house will be open to the different municipalities of the province if given the License to Operate (LTOP) for a safe and healthy meat.
