MANILA, (PIA) — Several local government units in the National Capital Region (NCR) have announced class suspensions for Monday, November 11, in anticipation of Severe Tropical Storm Nika’s impact.
Classes at all levels, both public and private, will be suspended in the following areas:
- Caloocan City
- Malabon City
- Navotas City
- City of Manila
- Quezon City
- Mandaluyong City
- Marikina City
- San Juan City
- Pasig City
- Pateros
- Parañaque City
- Muntinlupa City
- Las Piñas
- Pasay
Valenzuela City will have online classes for college students as announced by Mayor Wes Gatchalian.
Additionally, classes for Kindergarten to Grade 12 will be suspended in Makati and Taguig.
As of 4 p.m. on Sunday, the center of Severe Tropical Storm Nika was located approximately 380 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, with maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts reaching up to 135 kilometers per hour. The storm is moving westward at 20 kilometers per hour, with strong to storm-force winds extending up to 340 kilometers from its center.
Forecasters expect Nika to strengthen into a typhoon and make landfall over Aurora or Isabela on Monday morning or afternoon.
