DIPOLOG CITY (PIA) — Residents of Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte, can now enjoy clean and accessible water supply, thanks to the Potable Water System (PWS) Level 2 project of the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP).

The project aims to provide a sustainable and reliable water source for six barangays in Sibuco, improving public health, reducing the burden of fetching water, and allowing communities to focus on livelihood activities.

Funded with Php45 million, the water system was made possible through financial contributions from multiple sources, including the World Bank, the European Union, the Government of the Philippines, and the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Sibuco.

“Water is a symbol of life. Without water, we struggle,” said Deputy Project Director Maria Melba B. Wee. “Because of your diligence in fulfilling the PRDP’s requirements, those who worked on this project truly deserve recognition.”

“This project is vital to human life. We cannot survive without water, so we must ensure proper maintenance to make it last,” said Mayor Joel Ventura, expressing his gratitude to DA-PRDP for making the long-awaited water system a reality.

With 70 tap stands serving 336 households across six barangays, the water system will improve public health, enhance sanitation, support livelihoods, and contribute to long-term community development.

Following the project turnover, Mayor Ventura plans to call a barangay assembly to discuss the maintenance of the 22-kilometer pipeline and ensure its long-term sustainability. (EDT/PJF/CJH-OJT/PIA9-Zamboanga del Norte)
