LEGAZPI CITY (PIA) — In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Kristine, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Bicol has intensified its rescue and relief operations for the heavily affected communities in the region.
More than 400 personnel were deployed for disaster response, according to PCG Bicol Public Information Officer ENS Alyzza Novie Bermal.
Based on their reports as of October 29, 2024, the PCG Bicol has rescued 279,963 individuals and distributed 16,384 relief packs.
In addition, the PCG Bicol delivered 33.7 tons of relief goods to the Pasacao Port for distribution to typhoon victims in Camarines Sur.
Bermal also informed that they provided search and rescue operations in Albay province, including clearing and retrieval efforts in the areas of Libon and Guinobatan.
“Kami po ay nagagalak dahil humupa na rin po ‘yung mga baha sa ilang lugar kaya’t passable na ‘yong mga daan doon at sa ngayon po patuloy po ang pag-aasist namin sa pamimigay ng relief goods para po sa mga kababayan natin na lubhang naapektuhan ng Bagyong Kristine,” she said.
(We’re pleased that flooding has subsided in some areas, making the roads there passable. We continue to assist in distributing relief goods for our fellow citizens severely affected by Typhoon Kristine.)
“In the face of Typhoon Kristine’s devastation, we mobilized every available asset to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities. Our personnel have worked tirelessly to conduct rescues and distribute relief, demonstrating our commitment to serving the people of Bicol. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide support as needed,” said PCG Bicol Commander Ivan E. Roldan, PGC Bicol Commander.
They coordinate with local government units and other disaster response teams to assess the needs of and ensure the maritime safety of all seagoers. (PIA Bicol)
