COMELEC, agencies ready for poll day in Cagayan Valley

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan—The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Region 2 has declared full readiness for the upcoming national and local elections on May 12, 2025, with the support of security forces and other government agencies in Region 2.

COMELEC Regional Director Ederlino U. Tabilas said all necessary steps have been taken to ensure peaceful, honest, and orderly elections.

He confirmed that automated counting machines have undergone final testing and sealing, command centers have been established, and coordination with partner agencies is in full swing.

“We are fully committed to upholding the sanctity of the elections. Everything is in place,” said Tabilas.

Regional Director Brig. Gen. Antonio Marallag Jr. of the Philippine National Police also intensified security measures, and additional personnel have been deployed to identified election hotspots to safeguard polling areas and ensure public safety.

“Our officers are on full alert to prevent any form of disturbance or violence. Voters can feel secure in casting their ballots,” said Marallag.

From the military, Col. Davice Christopher Mercado of the 5th Infantry Division affirmed their readiness to support the COMELEC and the PNP in deterring electoral threats and maintaining order.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) also assured that there will be no power outages during the election period. All line works and maintenance operations in the region have been suspended from May 5 to 16 to ensure a continuous electricity supply.

Various government agencies have joined efforts to support voter education, information dissemination, logistics, and poll coordination.

With over one million registered voters in the Cagayan Valley expected to participate, officials are urging the public to follow election laws and report any suspicious activity. (ALM/PIA Region 2)
