DAVAO CITY (PIA) — The Commission on Elections Davao Region (COMELEC-Davao) had commenced the distribution of Voter Information Sheets (VIS), aiming for a 100% distribution rate to all registered voters in the region. This initiative comes amid growing concerns over misinformation surrounding the purpose of the VIS.
COMELEC-Davao Assistant Regional Election Director Atty. Gay Enumerables reported that some voters from other regions are hesitant to accept the VIS due to misconceptions.
“Kasi may narinig kami na may ayaw tumanggap ng VIS dahil pinapirma sila, and they think it will be used as some sort of a petition to impeach the VP. No, it’s not.” Atty. Enumerables said.
(We hear reports that some are not accepting VIS because they are made to sign…)
Enumerables emphasized that the VIS is an official document from COMELEC meant to provide voters with essential information for the upcoming May 12 elections.
Each VIS contains the recipient’s name, polling precinct, and a list of candidates, as well as guidelines on voting procedures. The requirement to sign upon receipt is solely for monitoring purposes to ensure proper distribution.
With over three million registered voters in Davao Region, the commission aims to complete the distribution before election day.
The public is urged to accept their VIS and use it as a guide to facilitate a smooth and informed voting process. The COMELEC also reminded voters that the VIS is separate from any political petition and that its primary purpose is to enhance voter awareness and preparedness. (REC / PIA XI)
