CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) – More than 400 Pantawid Pamilya (4Ps) beneficiaries in Liloan, Cebu were oriented on how to use the Automated Counting Machine (ACM) conducted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Region 7 in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Held on Jan. 18, the ACM demonstration is part of Comelec’s ongoing Voters’ Education and ACM demonstration held nationwide.

Of the total 490 beneficiaries, 188 were from Barangay Tayud and 302 from Barangay Catarman.

Election Officer IV Patricia A. Sitoy said the activity aimed to teach the 4Ps beneficiaries on how to vote using the ACM.

“Actually, the intention of our main office was merely to impart to our 4Ps beneficiaries how to operate the Automated Counting Machine (ACM) because this is a new type of ACM compared to the last time. When you invite them to come to a meeting or a session like voter information, they will attend as they are mandated to have regular learning sessions, and we took advantage of it through the help of DWSD,” said Sitoy.

She added that barangays can send a request to Comelec for an ACM demonstration in their area.

“We also conduct this ACM demonstration if we get invitations from them, especially the barangay officials and other communities that request for demos,” she added..

Christine Batinwel, a 4Ps beneficiary from Liloan, described the new ACM as better than the previous counting machine she used in the past election.

“Mas dali ang pag processo karon tungod sa atong bag-ong machine kay makita ra dayon sa monitor atong gipangbutaran ug dali ra pud ang pag processo sa paggawas sa resibo. Makita ra gyud nato kung over voting ba, kung kinsa atong gi botaran mao gyud to,” said Batinwel.

(It is easier to process with the new machine since you can monitor the names of those you have voted for, and it’s easier because it will immediately issue a receipt. We can easily see if we have overvoted and if those names have been voted for.)

Sitoy said ACM demonstrations were also held in Tondo,Manila on Jan. 11 and in Davao City on Jan. 25. (ZCL/PIA7)
