BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Commission on Elections prioritizes the registration of voters from the vulnerable sector in Baguio City for the October 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections   in its off-site   registration activities.

At least 90 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and jail guards successfully registered during the COMELEC offsite registration at the Baguio City Jail on  January 9.  The registrants are composed of 58 male and 23 female PDLs and   10 jail officers.

On Wednesday, 91 individuals, mostly senior citizens, persons with disabilities, youth and indigenous peoples, registered during the registration at the SM City Baguio.

COMELEC Baguio City Election Officer Atty. John Paul Martin said the COMELEC provided a week to give priority for those identified as part of the vulnerable sector which includes the PDLs, senior citizens, PWDs, the youth, and indigenous peoples for a special consideration for voter registration.

Martin said that the sectoral offsite registration aims to ensure that all those who want to vote can be registered and this is being done in the most accessible areas in the city.

Martin said that the offsite registration at the SM City Baguio which is located at Level 3 Sunset Terraces will be open until January 31, 2023 from Monday to Saturday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM.

He said that they are still waiting for requests from the different sectors and other organizations or establishment where they can hold offsite registration.

Martin calls on qualified registrants for the upcoming barangay and SK elections to register earlier to avoid long queues during the last days of the registration period. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
