QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Monday, September 18, inaugurated its new Metro Manila regional office in San Juan City.

Led by COMELEC Chairperson George Erwin Gacia, the event was graced by San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, Congresswoman Bel Zamora, and some city and COMELEC officials.

In his message, Mayor Zamora said that it is an honor to have the COMELEC regional office operating in the city.

Sa araw na ito, kami ay nagpapasalamat sapagkat natuloy na po ang pormal na inagurasyon ng inyong tanggapan na para sa amin ay malaking karangalan. This is an honor for us of seeing major government agencies transferring to the city. Dahil nasa geographic center ito ng Metro Manila, magiging madali po para sa ating mamamayan lalo pag filing certificates of candidacy, nasa gitna na po ng Metro Manila ang inyong tanggapan,” he said.

For his part, Chairman Garcia expressed his gratitude for the successful completion of the regional office.

Nandito tayo sa mismong puso ng NCR at napakamatulungin na LGU. Yung tahanan na matagal na nating ninanais sa NCR, nandito na. Napakamakabago at nandito pa sa puso ng San Juan sa Greenhills,” he said.

The 4-story G1 building is one of the biggest and newest local government facilities in the city with a total size of 3,000 square meters.

It will also house other government agencies such as the San Juan Bureau of Fire and the Brgy. Greenhills Barangay Hall. It also has a wooden basketball court on its fourth floor and an open deck with garden.

The COMELEC Office is located in the third floor. Its former office was situated in Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila. (PIA-NCR)
