ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Capiz has registered a close ratio between male to female voters in the province for the upcoming May 2025 national and local elections.
This was disclosed by Comelec Provincial Election Supervisor lawyer Salud Milagros Villanueva during a talkshow program dubbed “PIA Kapihan” of the Capiz Government Information Center of the Philippine Information Agency last March 6.
“Kung tan-awon ta ang ratio sang babaye kag lalaki, ang mga lalaki ta is 51 percent kag ang mga babaye ta nga registered voters is 49 percent,” said Villanueva, referring to the 539,459 registered voters in the province.
(The 542,355 total registered voters are composed of 51 percent male and 49 percent female.)
The percentage translates to 272,209 males and 267,250 females.
However, she added that only 18 percent of the 370 total aspirants who filed their candidacy for the 186 local elective positions are women.
“This is also a call to our women to be more active when it comes to elected public servants,” said the poll body official, expressing her aspirations that more women will venture into local politics in the near future.
Villanueva was joined by Phil. Army’s 12th Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Vicel Jan Garsuta during the PIA’s Kapihan to discuss the various updates and security preparations for the May polls. (AGP/AAL/PIA Capiz)
