QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — A few months before the National and Local Elections (NLE), the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) urges voters to know their bets and other candidates better for the upcoming elections in May 2025.

During the weekly “Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas,” hosted by PIA National Capital Region, Regional Director Emver P. Cortez, COMELEC Assistant Regional Election Director for NCR, Atty. Jovencio G. Balanquit, encouraged voters to know their bets and other aspiring candidates for the election as part of the commission’s voters education campaign.

Sa mga botante, makilahok sa mga pagpupulong or magbasa ng mga tungkol sa mga kandidato [na ‘yan] that you would know, you can ascertain later kung sinong dapat, karapat-dapat.”

Balanquit also discouraged voters to receive anything from candidates in exchange of their votes.

“Avoid receiving anything in exchange of your vote, ‘yun naman ang dapat mangyari… Dapat meron kang freedom of choice na kung ano ‘yung ginusto mo dapat ‘yun ang ilalagay mo sa balota. Walang impluwensya.”

He emphasized COMELEC’s ‘kontra-bigay’ project to prevent vote-buying. Balanquit said the project aims to ensure the freedom of choice for voters.

Over 7.5 million registered voters in the National Capital Region are expected to cast in their votes on May 12, 2025. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
