SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) — The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Occidental Mindoro urged candidates in the province to comply with Republic Act No. 9006 or the Fair Elections Act for the 2025 National and Local Elections.
The law outlines guidelines to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates regarding media access and the use of election propaganda materials within parameters set by law.
Provincial Election Supervisor (ES) Grollen Mar Liwag specifically highlighted the provisions concerning the campaign materials used by candidates.
He explained that posters or tarpaulins placed outside the designated common poster areas must be removed, and campaign materials that exceed prescribed sizes must be taken down.
Under the law, posters used during the local campaign period should not be more than two feet by three feet.
Streamers, measuring three feet by eight feet, are permitted only at venues where meetings or rallies take place. However, these must be taken down within 24 hours following the event.
Liwag also warned that the COMELEC, with the assistance of other agencies, will remove unauthorized campaign materials during its conduct of Operation Baklas.
“Kasama natin sa Operation Baklas ang Department of Public Works and Highways, gayundin ang Philippine National Police at Philippine Army,” he said.
(During Operation Baklas, we will work with the Department of Public Works and Highways, as well as the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army.)
He assured that the COMELEC will enforce Operation Baklas fairly and impartially and will also send letters to all candidates in the province.
These communications will include a list of designated common poster areas in each municipality, along with alerts for candidates to remove any illegal posters.
The campaign period for local candidates will take place from March 28 to May 10, 2025. (VND/PIA MIMAROPA – Occidental Mindoro)
