CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) IV-A has completed close to 70% of infrastructure projects that include big-ticket road projects across Calabarzon.
During the Sulong Calabarzon program on Thursday, January 16, DPWH Director for Region IV-A Jovel G. Mendoza said of the 2,556 projects last year, almost 70% are completed while the rest are on-going and nearing completion.
“There are also projects that have not yet started due to some difficulties, including right-of-way challenges that we are still negotiating,” Mendoza said.
Among the flagship projects that are completed or are near completion include the Alaminos-San Pablo City Bypass Road, Balagtas Flyover in Batangas City, STAR Tollway Pinamucan Bypass Road in Batangas, Tagkawayan-Labo Diversion Road in Quezon Province, Guinayangan-Tagkawayan Diversion Road in Quezon Province, Sangley Airport Access Road in Cavite.
The DPWH said school building projects under the Basic Education Facilities Fund (BEFF) are also set to be completed.
“Under the BEFF of the Department of Education, we have recorded a completion rate of 47% which covers the 46 out of 86 projects. Some of these have not yet started due to issues on where the schools should be established,” Mendoza added.
Mendoza said the buildings were designed to be more disaster-resilient and equipped to accommodate the increasing number of students.
In line with the region’s disaster resilience and preparedness, Mendoza said that the DPWH has constructed 1,155 flood control projects with total allotment of P69.9 billion.
Under the 2025 national budget, the DPWH is among the agencies with the largest allocations for the year. (CO/PIA-4A)
