Connecting communities through new road projects inaugurated in Zampen

ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY, July 21 (PIA) – The Province of Zamboanga Sibugay warmly welcomes President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the inauguration of the three core projects under the Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project (IGCMRSP) in the Municipality of Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay on July 21, 2023.

As the government continues to fulfill its commitment of establishing inclusive connectivity across the country, the IGCMRSP is projected to ramp up infrastructure development and improve people’s access to basic social services in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

Gov. Dulce Ann Hofer expressed her gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for visiting the Province of Zamboanga Sibugay and continuously supporting projects in improving the lives of the Sibugaynons.

“Your presence is a testament to the commitment and dedication of National Government toward the development of our region and the enhancement of connectivity, trade and growth in Western Mindanao,” she said.

The people of Zamboanga Peninsula can now enjoy the improvement of roads that will significantly reduce travel time and improve network safety, benefiting thousands of daily travelers in the region.

“We deeply appreciate your support and leadership in prioritizing infrastructure projects, which without a doubt will spur economic progress and uplift the lives of our fellow Sibugaynons and Mindanaoans,” Gov. Hofer expressed.

The projects comprise a total road length of 69.07 kilometers that include 11 bridges. The improvements consist of paving earth and gravel roads, replacing damaged road sections, widening existing roads, and replacing and strengthening of existing bridges.

According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the roads were specifically designed to strengthen resilience against climate change through slope protections and improved drainage structures, among others.

The Province of Zamboanga Sibugay emphasized that the completion of these vital roads is a significant milestone for their province. It is a clear reflection of the collaborative efforts between the National Government and Local Government in advancing our shared vision of a more prosperous and sustainable future for all.

Governor Hofer appreciated the efforts of President Marcos Jr., saying that as he inaugurate these roads, “we are reminded of the promising opportunities they bring and empowering our communities to thrive and prosper.
