Continuous disaster management training conducted by OCD

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna (PIA) – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) – Region 4A continues to hold training sessions with local disaster risk reduction and management offices to enhance their preparedness and response capabilities.

These trainings aim to equip local officials and personnel with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage and mitigate the impacts of disasters, ensuring the safety and resilience of their communities.

The OCD-Region 4A Director and RDRRMC CALABARZON Chairperson, Carlos Eduardo Alvarez III, added that even local chief executives are mandated to attend these training sessions to ensure that they are knowledgeable about disaster risk management, enabling them to lead their communities effectively during emergencies and to implement disaster preparedness measures efficiently.

“So in times of disaster, we all have to be synchronized. There should not be different styles of disaster response per LGU; that’s why we push for an operation center that we call a facility, which will serve as the coordination and information hub,” said Alvarez.

“We don’t wait for the disaster. We prepare before the disaster comes up. We are always on top of things and, at the same time, are prepared for disasters so that we can mitigate and respond to operations and circumstances requiring rehabilitation and recovery. So not only before the disaster, during the disaster, but even after the disaster, we are very focused on that,” he said.

During a meeting with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Alvarez concurred that the region implement the High Risk or Charlie protocol in Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) so that the region will be better equipped to respond to hazards and worst-case possible scenarios throughout the La Niña season.
