ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — A cooking demonstration featuring recipes with Indigenous Supplementary Mixture (Insumix) was recently conducted by the Office of Provincial Agriculturist in the civic center of Pilar town to promote nutrition and elevate the dietary habits of the community.

The activity also intends to provide the participants with a comprehensive understanding of the significance of incorporating locally made Insumix into their daily meals.

The dishes exemplified the versatility of the mixture highlighting its dietary benefits and emphasizing its role in addressing the nutritional needs of children affected by malnutrition.

OPA Agricultural Technologist Melanie Loyola said the provincial government thru its collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute is producing the Insumix at the Governor’s Mansion compound in Brgy. Lanot, Roxas City.

“Each formulation is composed of 50 kilograms of local rice as well as 18 kilograms of mongo beans and white sesame seeds which can produce about 272 to 300 packs of 250 grams of the powder mixture,” she noted.

She added that the LGUs may request to produce Insumix but will provide its needed raw materials and plastic packaging.

The cooking demonstration and lecture were graced and supported by Pilar mayor Arnold Perez, Municipal Health Officer and Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Laura Castillo, and Nutrition Focal Person Armila Amores to reduce the incidence of malnutrition, especially among children.

The same activity has also been conducted in Dumalag, Maayon and Sapian towns as a crucial step towards ensuring a healthier and more nourished community. (AGP/AAL/PIA Capiz)
