TAYUM, Abra (PIA) – Culture and cooperation highlighted this year’s Tayum Indigo Festival with the theme “Napasingked a Pammati, Mamagkaysa iti Umili.”
The month-long celebration featured various activities such as the Grand Parade, Festival of Flavors Food Bazaar, Opening of Lights, Barangay Night Dance Competition, Indigo Fun Run, Mass Wedding, and the Antonio Luna Day among others.
Mayor Placido Eduarte Jr. shared that the successful staging of the town’s annual festival is the result of community cooperation.
“Ti masanguanan manen nga intay panag-fiesta iti sumaruno a tawen, padasen tayo manen nga nagargarbo ken napinpintas. Amin dagitoy ket bunga ti rigat ti enteramenta nga ili ti Tayum,” he said.
Eduarte thanked the residents and visitors for making the 2024 Indigo Festival one of the most colorful events in the province.
The festival also showcased the attires, music, and dances that promote the vibrant culture of Tayum folks. During the Barangay Night Dance Competition, Vice Mayor Emmanuel Eduarte emphasized the importance of the history and the culture of Tayum.
“Ipanakkel tayo ti napintas nga kultura ken napno a pammati ti Tayum. Ipakita tayo ti maysa nga istorya a mangpalagip ti balor ti napalabas ken kultura a mangipakita kadatayo a kas maysa nga komunidad,” he stressed.
The Indigo Festival Grand Parade also featured a Tingguian cultural performance from the Muyadan Tribe of the Manabo National High School, courtesy of the Pistok Manabo-Tayum Group.
The Indigo Festival is inspired by the indigo plant or Tayum-tayum plant from which the town got its name. In the earlier times, the indigo plant was used as a natural dye to color yarns of cotton. (JJPM, PIA-CAR, Abra)
