BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council maintains its proactive approach, stepping up its hazard-specific preparedness and response plans.
Office of Civil Defense Regional Director and Cordillera RDRRMC chairperson Albert Mogol led the launching of the updated Regional Disaster Response Plan (RDRP) for Earthquake, RDRP for Fire Hazards, Household Preparedness Handbook Natural and Climate Hazards, and the enhanced Cordillera Regional DRRM Plan 2024-2030 during the 2025 first quarter full council meeting in Baguio City.
“This proactive approach signifies our commitment to strengthening our disaster response capabilities, ensuring we are better prepared for future incidents,” Mogol said.
The RDRP for Earthquake lays down the framework of the interoperability of the RDRRMC’s Response Cluster to the Incident Management Team and its integration and coordination with the council’s Emergency Operation Center.
The plan also defines the roles and responsibilities of every stakeholder involved during disaster response operations.
A table top exercise for the plan was conducted during the 1st Quarter 2025 National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill.
In response to structural and forest fires that are common during the summer season, the RDRRMC crafted the RDRP for Fire Hazards that contains the strategies and direction for the council in supporting the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the lead agencies in fire prevention and suppression and forest protection and preservation, respectively.
Its crafting emanated from the series of forest fires that affected hundreds of hectares of forest lands across the region in 2024.
The household preparedness handbook on natural and climate hazards was produced by the OCD to guide families and individuals to prepare and manage the impacts of disaster.
“Together, let us continue striving for the attainment of safer, adaptive and disaster –resilient Filipino communities towards sustainable development and ensuring the safety, security and well-being of all Filipinos and Cordillerans for generations to come,” Mogol enjoined. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
