Cordillera ready for May 12 midterm elections

Comelec-CAR RD Julius Torres shares election updates during the press conference at the Comelec Regional Office on May 8, 2025.

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – The Commission on Elections-Cordillera (Comelec-CAR) is confident   the region is ready for the May 12, 2025 National and Local Elections.

Comelec-CAR Regional Director Julius Torres said that the final testing and sealing of vote counting machines (VCMs) in the region has been successful. Some glitches were reported in Baguio City, Apayao, and Mountain Province but were immediately addressed.

“CAR is one of the three regions na nag-100 percent successful ang final testing and sealing. We’re very fortunate na makita natin ‘yung mga makina natin, fully functional,” Torres said.

Torres added that every province has a technical hub to assist in case of any technical glitches during   election day.

“Fully sealed na ‘yan [ACMs]. Andun na sa ibang presinto ‘yung mga makina natin at bubuksan na lang ulit ‘yan on election day,” he said.

Verification of ballots is ongoing. The Comelec-CAR is expected to start the deployment of other election paraphernalia in the next two days especially in remote areas.

“Ngayon, inaayos natin ‘yung mga bagay-bagay na makatutulong sa atin like ‘yung mga transportation natin, logistics,” Torres said.

They are also coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippines for a possible helicopter to be on standby in Abra, in case of uncertainties.

The Philippine National Police has already committed a helicopter on standby at Loakan airport in Baguio City, that is ready to respond in case of any incident.

PNP personnel were also deployed in various polling precincts to safeguard the ACMs and ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of election on May 12. (DEG-PIA CAR)
