ALAMADA, Cotabato Province (PIA) — One hundred ninety-nine members of the Lamuyon Communal Irrigation System (LCIS) in Sitio Lamuyon, Barangay Barangiran in Alamada town, Cotabato Province, will benefit from the Department of Agrarian Reform’s (DAR) P50 million-worth of irrigation system upgrade project, according to Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Evangeline Bueno.
Bueno said the project will expand the irrigation coverage to a total of 105 hectares of rice fields and will also empower farmers with sustainable water management solutions.
Meanwhile, to protect farm areas from flash flood damage during heavy rainfall, the project will include the construction of a stream check and a 250-meter protection structure.
Edna Señase, president of the Lamuyon Communal Irrigators Association, expressed gratitude to DAR and its partner agencies for choosing their organization as the recipient of the project.
“We are really glad for this big project given to us because this will surely enhance our agricultural productivity by ensuring reliable water supply,” Señase conveyed.
“This intervention on improving the irrigation system in Sitio Lamuyon is part of the ongoing efforts to fulfill one of DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella III’s nine primary goals: irrigation intervention,” Bueno stated.
The project will be funded by DAR’s Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.
DAR-Cotabato said they will continue to collaborate and work with partner agencies such as the National Irrigation Administration, the provincial government of Cotabato, the local government unit of Alamada, and other stakeholders to ensure the project’s smooth and efficient implementation.
