COVID-19 up by 36 percent -DOH

MANILA (PIA) – The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, December 12, reported a 36 percent increase in COVID-19 cases, with 1,821 new cases recorded from December 5 to 11.

This is higher compared to the cases recorded from November 28 to December 4.

In the national COVID-18 case bulletin, the average number of new cases per day this week is at 260.

Of the new cases, 13 are seriously and critically ill while 13 have passed away, including six that occurred between November 28 and December 11. As of December 10, 2023, there were 228 serious and critical patients admitted to hospitals nationwide due to COVID-19.

The DOH reminded everyone not to be complacent about the threat of COVID-19 and voluntarily wear a face mask to avoid even other diseases.

“Pinapaalalahanan ang lahat na huwag maging kampante sa banta ng COVID-19. Bagkus, dapat natin ipagpatuloy ang tamang pagsunod sa minimum public health standards sa ilalim ng Alert Level 1,” the DOH said. 

“Laging magsuot ng best-fitted face mask at kung maaari, manatili sa well-ventilated na mga lugar. Sa oras na makaramdam ng sintomas, agad na mag-isolate. Para sa karagdagang proteksyon laban sa banta ng COVID-19, agad-agaran na tayong magpabakuna at booster,” it added.

(Translation: Always wear the best-fitted face mask and if possible, stay in well-ventilated areas. At the time of feeling symptoms, isolate immediately. For additional protection against the threat of COVID-19, immediately get vaccinated and have booster shots.)

To date, more than 78 million individuals or 100.44 percent of the Philippines’ target population have been vaccinated against COVID-19, while 23 million individuals have already received their booster shots. On the other hand, 7.1 million senior citizens or 82.16 percent of the target A2 population have already received their primary series. (JMP/PIA-NCR)
