BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Commission on Population and Development-Cordillera (CPD-CAR) continues to advocate the integration of population in the development planning of local government units (LGUs).
CPD-CAR Assistant Regional Director Job Manalang highlighted the significance of data in planning, especially in addressing the development needs of the population with available funds and resources.
He underscored the importance of population data and their need for effective planning and resource allocation, as well as tailoring programs and services accordingly.
“Dapat talaga, ‘yung ating plano, may pundasyon ng kung sino ‘yung mga tao sa kanilang LGUs para mabalanse nila ‘yung kanilang development at tsaka ‘yung limited din nila na resources at pondo para mapunta sa tamang ng tao, ‘yung nangangailangan,” Manalang said.
Manalang shared that they are promoting the Registry of Barangay Inhabitants and Migrants (RBIM), a database system designed to generate demographic and socio-economic information that can be used for development planning.
“Pino-promote natin ang Registry of Barangay Inhabitants and Migrants kung saan nakatutok sa barangay ‘yung pag-survey, pag-census ng kanilang population para sila mismo sa barangay, kilala nila kung sino ‘yung kanilang populasyon at ‘yung mga needs nila, at tsaka sila magplaplano nang maayos, related na rin sa dami ng tao at kung ano ‘yung specific requirements ng mga programa at serbisyo na kailangan ng mga taong ‘to,” he said.
In the Cordillera, 159 barangays have rolled out the RBIM system. The CPD-CAR provides the training for free including the system to support the development planning of the barangays.
Manalang urged LGUs, regional line agencies, and civil society organizations to participate in more population development-oriented planning and development. (DEG-PIA CAR)
