CSC Ilocos Sur’s fun run raises P256K for fallen heroes’ families

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) — The Civil Service Commission (CSC) Ilocos Sur successfully raised a total of P256,000 from its “Vibe Run: Takbo para sa mga Servant Heroes” on September 1 to  kick off the observance of the 124th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA).

The funds will be allocated to the Pamanang Lingkod Bayani Program, providing financial assistance and scholarships to the families of government workers who died in the line of duty.

Over 1,024 runners participated in the event, each contributing P250 to the cause.

CSC Ilocos Sur Provincial Director Marina Garcia expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support, emphasizing that the funds would directly benefit the families of fallen heroes.

“This will be for the benefit of our servant heroes; the funds will not go to the Civil Service Commission,” she said.

She added, “I am filled with gratitude because today, we did not only celebrate our rich history and the unwavering dedication of civil servants but also embraced the spirit of health, camaraderie, and unity.”

Governor Jeremias Singson said, “Together, let us guarantee that our servant heroes and their families receive the recognition and assistance they rightfully deserve.”

He also stated that the anniversary is a time to reflect on the invaluable contributions of civil servants, where each stride symbolizes their collective strength and solidarity.

“Our civil servants are the backbone of our government, seeing that essential services reach every corner of our province and our nation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ina Mendoza, an educator from the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College who joined the run, said, “I am happy to be part of this year’s CSC celebration, and I see this activity as an avenue for us, government employees, to serve as an outlet of stress, especially with the long work hours, so I am grateful to CSC for having this initiative.”

The fun run commenced and concluded with zumba exercises, as well as with a vibrant color splash.

In addition to the fun run, the CSC Ilocos Sur Field Office will also be spearheading the conduct of the outreach program for the elderly at Balay Taripato in Santa Lucia, Ilocos Sur, on September 12 and the tree-growing for-a-cause in  Barangay Daligan, Santa Cruz, Ilocos Sur, on September 17.
