CSC marks 124th Civil Service Anniversary

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) – The Civil Service Commission (CSC) Region 7 kicked off the 124th celebration of the Philippine Civil Service Anniversary on Sept. 1 with the “2024 Vibe Run.”

During the Kapihan sa PIA forum on Sept. 5, CSC-7 chief human resources specialist Prolaine D. Daclan disclosed that the proceeds of the Vibe Run will go to CSC’s Pondong Pamanang Lingkod Bayani Program that will benefit the families of civil servants who died in the line of duty.

“We want to emphasize that we’re giving the families of these employees ₱100,000 as one of their benefits, which also includes scholarships,” said Daclan.

Job fair

In line with the celebration, CSC-7 regional director Atty. Ariel B. Bacatan noted that their agency has been holding job fairs, even during the pandemic.

“Ang atong job fair dili ni first time. Aduna ta’y government job fair. Na-interrupt lang ni during the pandemic kay online pero karon onsite na ta,” Bacatan said.

(This is not our first job fair. We’ve had government job fairs before. It was just interrupted during the pandemic because it was held online, but now we’re back onsite).

Twenty local and national government agencies, with over 1,000 vacant positions, participated in the two-day job fair.

Agencies that joined included the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Department of Education (DepEd), DepEd Schools Divisions of Cebu, Talisay, and Carcar, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Public Works and Highways, Parole and Probation Administration, Metropolitan Cebu Water District, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Cebu South Medical Center, Eversley Child Sanitarium, Saint Anthony Mother and Child Hospital, and Cebu Technological University.

Other activities for the month include bloodletting event, tree-growing or mangrove-planting activities, coastal clean-up drive, and the Regional Awards Rites.

Bacatan emphasized that the Regional Awards Rites on Sept. 13 will highlight deserving civil servants in the region who have displayed exemplary behavior in service.

“Importante pud na kay kasagaran man gud kung moingon ka ‘empleyado,’ ang atong madungog kay buluyagon, dili mosulod, sige’g absent, mangawkaw, ug uban pang kalapasan. Pero pila raman na sila kabuok? The vast majority of our civil servants naningkamot nga mapuy-an nila ang ilang gipanumpa-an. So, mao ni ang okasyon nato pag-recognize sa mga deserving nga public servants nga mapasidunggan sad sila,” Bacatan added.

(It’s also important because, usually, when you say ‘government employee,’ what we often hear are things like lazy, not showing up for work, frequently absent, stealing, and other offenses. But how many of them are actually like that? The vast majority of our civil servants strive to live up to the oaths they’ve taken. So, this is our opportunity to recognize the deserving public servants and honor them as well.)

Civil servants can also enjoy special treats for the whole month of September from partner establishments.

Anchored on the 10-year overarching theme “Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant-Heroes,” the celebration focuses on the importance of cultivating sustainable management to achieve a future-ready civil service.

This is also aligned with the aspirations and goals of Ambisyon Natin 2040, which envisions a Philippines that enjoys a stable and comfortable life, protected and enabled by a clean, efficient, and fair government. (MYP/PIA 7 Cebu)
