Ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate the three-day Provincial Filipino Food Month Trade Fair at Gaisano Grand Mall, April 3-6, 2025.
A culinary revolution is brewing in Northern Samar as local entrepreneurs embrace the island’s lifestyle and the rich cultural heritage of their community.
This transformation was prominently showcased during the Filipino Food Trade Fair at the Gaisano Grand Mall, where 56 exhibitors displayed their artisan food products, each embodying innovation and resilience.
Some of these products include sinarongsong sa cawayan, pili nuts, taro, cacao, coconut, dried fish, and cassava, among others.
“We started from fewer than 10 producers, and it increased to 56 or more as we developed producers through training and coaching conducted by our Negosyo Center business councilors,” said Mimosa Regis, provincial director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Northern Samar.
Among those making waves is Remedios Rae Buhay Acebuche, who embodies the spirit of this entrepreneurial surge.
She received training in food production from DTI, DOST, and TESDA, focusing on local raw materials. Additionally, she has creatively modified the flavors and packaging of her products.
“I became creative; I researched and discovered how to make my products as tasty and tempting as can be. Thus, I made my business grow,” she said.
Regis believed that the Negosyo Center and its collaborations with government agencies have fostered a vibrant community of food artisans, empowering local talent and preserving Northern Samar’s unique flavors.
This year’s Provincial Filipino Food Month Trade Fair, which runs from April 3 to 6, is anchored on the theme, “Sarap ng Pagkaing Pilipino: Yaman ng Kasaysayan, Kultura at Pagkatao.”
The island’s culinary scene highlights government support in fostering economic growth. Artisans in Northern Samar blend traditional practices with entrepreneurship, positioning the region for culinary development. (AND, PIA Nothern Samar)
