Cultural Education Summit inaugurates in Marinduque

BOAC, Marinduque (PIA) — The province hosted the inaugural leg of ‘Mga Durungawan sa Kulturang Pilipino’ (Windows to Philippine Culture) held on June 30 to July 2. The event is a collaborative effort between Marinduque State College (MSC) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

The Durungawan program, organized by the NCCA’s National Committee on Cultural Education, aims to promote culture-based education and its integration into instructional practices. The three-day summit will delve into the multifaceted aspects of Philippine culture with its theme “Culture-based Education: Enriching Instruction, Enabling Integration, and Enhancing Contextualization”.

The summit intends to shed light on the diverse perspectives through which Philippine culture can be observed and understood. Philippine cultures offer a richly varied landscape for exploration and appreciation with a complex tapestry woven from historical, geographical, political, economic, religious, and social forces,

The event has garnered widespread support, receiving endorsements from various educational institutions and authorities. The Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) and the Department of Education (DepEd), from the central office to regional and division levels, expressed their commitment to the program’s success.

Under PASUC’s guidance, Dr. Tirso Ronquillo, PASUC President, officially endorsed the event through PASUC No. 049 s. 2023. Likewise, Dr. Ma Edelwina M. Blase, Vice President for Research and Extension at MSC, issued a memo inviting faculty members and personnel to participate. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED), led by Dr. Prospero de Vera, also provided a memorandum encouraging officials and faculty to engage actively in the summit.

Recognizing the significance of the event, the Marinduque Division Schools Superintendent, Dr. Lynn Mendoza, issued a Division Advisory complying with DepEd Order No. 8 s. 2023 which aims to inform DepEd officials, personnel, staff, and the general public about the seminar series hosted by Marinduque. Dr. Nicolas Capulong, DepEd Mimaropa Regional Director, further disseminated the information across the region.

Marinduque also serves as a conduit for the implementation of the NCCA Philippine Cultural Education Program (PCEP) and the Graduate Diploma in Cultural Education for Mimaropa, the National Capital Region, and Bicol. Esteemed figures, including NCCA Commissioner Carlo Ebeo, MSC President Dr. Diosdado Zulueta, and renowned speakers from the CulEd committee, namely Dr. Jovy Peregrino, Dr. Josephine Rosos, Dr. Aida Paraguison, Dr. Shirley Maloles, Pamela Caday, Dr. Catherine Rodriguez, and Mohair Rindo, grace the summit with their expertise.
