CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Agriculture (DA)-10 is doubling down on its commitment to empower farmers as Development Management Officer Luz I. Guzman emphasized the agency’s comprehensive programs supporting urban gardening and sustainable agriculture during an interview on Radyo Pilipinas.

DA-10’s initiatives gave farmers access to production support services; this includes seeds, fertilizers, planting materials, and agricultural machinery. Guzman emphasized the free provision of all resources, including extension support education and training services.

To tailor this assistance to their individual needs, different requirements are requested for that specific program.

“The most basic one na requirement is you’re a farmer, and most importantly, naka-register ka sa Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA). Naa pud ta’y specific requirement depende sa intervention ihatag,” Guzman said.

If they meet the requirements, the DA selects beneficiaries based on program-specific criteria, ensuring that the right individuals are chosen and instilling in them the responsibilities they need to fulfill.

Among DA-10’s new projects for this year is an expansion of its rice program and an enhanced Rice Farmers Financial Assistance Program. “Ang assistance sa rice farmers sauna P5,000, karon nahimong P7,000 na,” Guzman said.

In order to make use of their programs and benefits, Guzman encouraged the farmers—particularly those engaged in urban gardening and other agricultural activities—to actively participate in DA programs, emphasizing the importance of farmer involvement.

DA-10 continues to champion agricultural growth and sustainability in Northern Mindanao through programs that address the needs of farmers, promote food security, and encourage urban gardening as a solution to limited farming spaces. (ALAO/PIA-10)
