DA-13 distributes over P5M in fertilizer vouchers to sustain rice sufficiency in Surigao Sur

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur — The Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga, through the National Rice Program, recently distributed fertilizer discount vouchers (FDV) to 1,216 farmers in the province of Surigao del Sur .

The program implementation is in coordination with the local government units through its respective city and municipal agriculture offices, of which the latest distribution was made in Madrid, Surigao del Sur on November 29.

The 1,216 farmer beneficiaries are registered in the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBA), with the following breakdown on budget allocation:

o  P240,000  to 64 farmers from the municipality of Barobo;

o  P644,080 to 63 farmers from the municipality of Cagwait;

o  P1,084,914 to 242 farmers from the municipality of San Miguel;

o  P269,657 to 56 farmers from the municipality of Hinatuan;

o  P788,864 to 205 farmers from Bislig City;

o  P600,000 to 124 farmers from Tandag City;

o  P825,076 to 202 farmers from the municipality of Cantilan; and

o  P638,819 to 160 farmers from the municipality of Madrid.

Through the FDV, farmer-beneficiaries will be able to cushion the potential impacts of the under-application of fertilizer in palay production and sustain the rice supply and sufficiency in the country.

Meanwhile, DA – Caraga extended the same assistance to another 424 small holder farmers tilling a maximum of two hectares who also received the FDV in Carrascal town lately this year. Each farmer benefitted from the FDV valued from P1,650 to P6,600 to purchase urea fertilizer (46-0-0) from the accredited fertilizer merchants in the area.

“As support to the local farmers, LGU – Carrascal allocated P3 million for fertilizer subsidy every year for the local farmers,” municipal agriculturist Japhet Sugian shared, as affirmation of the LGU’s commitment to the farmers to subsidize 60% of the fertilizer cost.
