DA chief commits agri facility expansion for Nueva Vizcaya farmers

BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – – Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel has pledged to enhance agricultural infrastructure for local farmers in Nueva Vizcaya.

During his visit to the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal (NVAT), Laurel announced plans to establish a comprehensive rice processing facility.

This facility will feature a mechanical dryer, a warehouse, a rice mill, and an additional trading post, all aimed at supporting and improving local agricultural operations.

Laurel emphasized that these new projects are designed to increase production efficiency and encourage farmers to contribute to the province’s food security.

DA Assistant Secretary Daniel Atayde, Cagayan Valley officials, NVAT General Manager Gilbert Cumila, the NVAT Board of Directors, Governor Jose Gambito, and Bambang Mayor Benjamin Cuaresma III accompanied Laurel.

Laurel praised NVAT officials for their excellent management and successful execution of previous DA-funded projects.

“I have long wanted to visit Nueva Vizcaya to personally see the NVAT, which is essential in supplying vegetables to Metro Manila,” Laurel remarked.

In addition to the rice processing facility, Laurel committed to funding support for the ongoing construction of a juice processing facility at NVAT.

He also expressed strong support for the provincial government’s initiative to institutionalize organic farming, highlighting the DA’s commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and environmental protection. (OTB/BME/PIA Nueva Vizcaya)
