BOLINEY, Abra (PIA) — The Department of Agriculture led the dispersal of goats in the remote barangay of Danac West in this town.
Ninety-three heads of upgraded goats were turned over to the beneficiaries listed under the Sustainable and Inclusive Peace and Transformation (SIPAT) program.
The dispersal was led by DA-Agriculture Program Coordinating Office (DA-APCO) Abra Head Dr. Rose Tesoro and the local government of Boliney represented by Office of the Municipal Agriculturist Officer-in-Charge Arianne Mae Miguingan.
The SIPAT program is one of the peace building initiatives of the national government led by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU). It employs various intervention on livelihood opportunities for the Cordillera Bodong Administration-Cordillera Peoples Liberation Army members.
Tesoro stressed to the beneficiaries the proper care of the goats. She explained how many kilos of forages or grasses they will be needing in a day as well as ideal time to herd them on field.
“The government continues to deliver this assistance for your despite your very far location, and we hope that upon your assessment on SIPAT program later, this project had helped you,” she said.
In an interview with Minda Maiyaw, one of the recipients, she appreciated the efforts of the government in delivering the goats to their barangays.
“Hindi naming akalain, Sir, na kaya ninyong dalhin dito ang mga kambing dahil sa mahirap na daanan kaya malaki ang pasasalamat namin sa inyo dahil unti-unti nang dumadating ang mga serbisyo ng government dito sa amin,” he said.
Barangay Danac is 70 kilometers and four hour-drive away from the capital town of Bangued and is one of the geographically isolated barangays in the province. During the rainy season, residents are not able to travel outside the barangay due to swelling of creeks and rivers and landslides.
The residents store foods and grocery supply as early as April in preparation for the duration of the rainy season. (JDP/CAGT- PIA CAR, Abra)
