DA distributes cash aid to ASF-troubled Mindoro hog growers

SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) A total of 2,939 hog raisers affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF) in Occidental Mindoro recently received cash assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA) MIMAROPA.

Under the ASF Indemnification program, the beneficiaries received P5,000 per head of swine culled during depopulation effort, or a total of P95.7 million in indemnification.

“Ito po ay bayad para doon sa mga na-depopulate na baboy, kusang isinuko po ninyo na baboy, para hindi na po kumalat pa ang ASF sa Occidental Mindoro,” Engr. Maria Teresa Carido of DA MIMAROPA explained.

(This is payment for depopulated hogs voluntarily surrendered to prevent the further spread of ASF in Occidental Mindoro.)

Carido clarified that qualified beneficiaries for the indemnity are ASF-affected hog raisers rearing less than 20 swine and are not covered by the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the indemnification as some said it helped them recover from their losses.

“Lubos po akong nagpapasalamat sa biyayang ipinagkaloob po sa amin sa aming mga namatay na baboy. Maraming salamat po sa DA na laging sumusuporta sa amin,” Ruth Ansores, a hog raiser from San Jose said.

(We are truly grateful for the blessing given to us for our culled pigs. We are grateful for the DA’s continuous support for us.)

The DA MIMAROPA, in partnership with the local government, is working hand-in-hand to ensure that all ASF-affected hog growers in the province will receive the indemnity. (DSG/PIA MIMAROPA-Occidental Mindoro)
