BAGABAG, Nueva Vizcaya ( PIA ) — The Department of Agriculture (DA) has released hybrid rice seeds and fertilizer discount vouchers to farmers in the province.
Arsenio Apostol, DA Nueva Vizcaya Experiment Station chief, said hybrid rice seeds and fertilizer discount vouchers worth more than P175 million were given away under the DA’s Masagana Rice Industry Development Program.
“These assistance will be used by our farmers for the dry season planting. To be more effective, rice farmers in irrigated areas are being provided free hybrid rice seeds, and inbred seeds for other rice ecosystems,” he said.
Apostol said out of the more than P15 million worth of assistance, more than P112 million will be allotted for fertilizers through discount vouchers covering 28, 169 hectares while more than P62.6 million will be for rice seeds that will cover 13,052 hectares.
Farmer-beneficiary Rodel Cajimat of Bambang town said the DA assistance will be a great help for farmers, considering the high cost of hybrid seeds and commercial fertilizers.
“We are grateful for the DA assistance. Rest assured that we will pursue our endeavors to promote farming and contribute to our food security program,” he said.
The Masagana Rice program was formulated to address the present challenges in the rice industry and in the years to come.
