ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) — The Department of Agriculture (DA) led a blessing and turnover ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 8,  for a new coco-sugar processing facility in Barangay Malilico, Odiongan, Romblon.

This facility, a joint project between the DA and the local government unit of Odiongan, aims to support coconut farmers in producing coconut sugar and other coconut-based products.

The facility was formally handed over to the Organic Farmers, Producers, and Processors Association of Odiongan (ORFPPASO) by DA MIMAROPA Regional Director Christopher R. Bañas and Odiongan Vice Mayor Diven Dimaala.

In addition to the facility, equipment was also provided to the association by the DA and Odiongan local government.

Alejandre Solis, Jr., ORFPPASO president, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the project, including the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), which provided training and product development assistance through the Negosyo Center Odiongan.

Solis, a graduate of DTI’s Kapatid Mentor Me Program, shared the association’s plans to feature their coconut-based products, such as coconut sugar, coconut vinegar, bukayo, and coconut wine, at the OTOP Hub Romblon located in the DTI Negosyo Center Odiongan. (PR/PJF/PIA MIMAROPA-Romblon)
