DA introduces fertilization strategy in rice production

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) — The Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) in Region 2 has introduced a balanced fertilization program to improve rice production in Isabela and Cagayan provinces.

A total of 150 leaders from the irrigators’ association, along with local government agriculturists from both provinces, joined the training sessions held in Isabela, focusing on the adoption of balanced fertilization techniques.

Jhimcelle Salvador, a training specialist at ATI, emphasized that the program’s goal is to enhance farmers’ understanding of balanced fertilization, helping them increase productivity while ensuring the long-term sustainability of their agricultural practices.

The training sessions featured a comprehensive series of lectures on the Balance Fertilization Strategy on Rice (Abonong Swak), along with practical tools for nutrient management, including the Rice Crop Manager, Leaf Color Chart, Minus One Element Technique, e-learning resources, and other Information Communication Technology applications.

“This training has been incredibly beneficial, as it provides us with the knowledge needed to improve our yields. We are grateful to ATI for continuously guiding us on how to further increase our harvests,” said Roldan Acierto, President of the Tumauini Amianan Farmers Irrigators Association.

In addition to the lectures, participants were given informative materials on rice production and Leaf Color Charts to further support their learning and application of the new strategies. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
