BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) — The Department of Agriculture (DA) Cagayan Valley is offering the use of its drone in drawing maps and in applying fertilizers in farms across the region.
DA Regional Executive Director Rose Mary Aquino said their drone services for biofertilizer utilization under the Masagana Rice Industry Development Program, aims to enhance rice productivity and promote sustainable agriculture in Cagayan Valley.
Aquino said the biofertilizer utilization services involve drone mapping to optimize fertilizer application and monitoring rice fields more efficiently in various provinces of region 02.
“By utilizing advanced technology, we ensure precise and data-driven agricultural practices, enabling farmers to maximize their yield potential while reducing input costs,” she said.
She said the DA Regional Filed Office 02 in collaboration with LGUs is facilitating the distribution of biofertilizers and drone service vouchers to eligible farmers.
The vouchers will enable farmers to access drone services, ensuring uniform and efficient application of biofertilizers in their fields.
Aquino said technical briefings and field demonstrations on biofertilizers are also being conducted across the different provinces of Cagayan Valley by partner agricultural companies in collaboration with DA, provincial and local government units to educate farmers on biofertilizer’s benefits and proper application.
He said these sessions provide essential knowledge among farmers on how biofertilizers improve soil health, enhance nutrient absorption, and contribute to sustainable farming practices.
“Agricultural experts and field technicians lead these discussions, ensuring that farmers are well-equipped with the necessary information to integrate biofertilizers into their farming systems effectively,” Aquino said.
She said these science-based initiatives are important steps in promoting sustainable and resilient rice production in the region.
Aquino said it also demonstrates the government’s dedication in equipping farmers with innovative solutions to improve their livelihoods and reinforce the region’s role in the country’s rice production sector.
“The active participation of local farmers and stakeholders in these initiatives is expected to yield positive outcomes, further strengthening Region 2’s position as a key player in the country’s food security program,” she said. (BME/PIA NVizcaya)
