DA opens mungbean packaging facility in Isabela

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA)—The Department of Agriculture recently inaugurated a P3 million mungbean packaging facility in Cabatuan, this province.

The facility, located in Barangay Saranay, is expected to provide significant benefits to an estimated 180 farmers who engage in mungbean production during the dry cropping season, said Rolando Pedro, chief of DA’s Cagayan Valley Research Center.

“Agriculture is a good business. Let us nurture it, embrace it, and keep it in our hearts for our children and future generations. Let’s show that agriculture is a profitable livelihood and that the progress of agriculture is the progress of every Filipino family,” he said.

The DA also distributed agricultural inputs under the High-Value Crops Development Program. This included mungbean seeds and Carrageenan Plant Growth Promoter to Farmer Cooperatives and Associations from Cagayan Valley who were present at the event.

Pedro further said the interventions align with the DA’s goals to strengthen high-value crop production, boost the agricultural sector, and ensure food security for both Cagayan Valley and the entire country. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
