DA Usec lauds farmers’, fisherfolk’s efforts in food security

ILOILO CITY (PIA) — Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary lawyer Asis Perez lauded the essential contribution of farmers and fisherfolk to the nation’s food security and economy.

He acknowledged Iloilo’s critical role as the fourth-largest rice producer in the country, while also contributing significantly to the production of fish, corn, sugarcane, fruits, and livestock.

“Your dedication sustains not just the livelihoods of millions, but also the future of our agricultural and fisheries industries,” said Perez.

He also gave assurance in his speech that the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) 6 remains committed to strengthening efforts to increase production and make food more accessible and affordable for all Filipinos.

Perez also echoed the idea that agriculture is the lifeblood of Iloilo and further called the farmers and fisherfolk “the nation’s heroes” for their role in ensuring food security.

Pambansang Mannalon-Maguuma-Magbabaul-Magsasaka ng Pilipinas (P4MP) has also inducted their officers as part of the Iloilo Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Culmination in Passi City.

Some important figures who attended the event were DA Regional Executive Director Dennis Arpia and BFAR Regional Director Remia Aparri, alongside local officials, farmers, and fisherfolk leaders.
