DANGLAS, Abra (PIA) – Families of cartoon characters inspired the ‘Belens’ that kicked-off of this year’s Christmas season in Danglas, Abra.
The giant Belens that were opened to the public on December 1, 2024 also featured the creativity and unity of the seven barangays of the municipality.
Department of Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Denise Florence Bernos-Bragas, the town’s former mayor, explained that the 2024 Danglas Belenismo depicts the importance of family in celebrating the holidays.
She also shared that the colorful Danglas Belenismo started as an activity of the departments of the local government unit.
“In 2016, we involved the barangays para ipakita dagitoy kabarangayn mi ti talento da, they show their unity through the Belens, not forgetting the true spirit of Christmas,” she explained.
During the opening program, Acting Abra Vice-Governor Russell Bragas congratulated the Danglas townsfolk for continuously making the Danglas Belenismo a tourist favorite during the holidays.
“Congratulations again for embodying the true essence of leadership, camaraderie, and unity in your barangays and for living up to the reputation and showcasing the much anticipated Belenismo,” he expressed.
The different Belens were inspired by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Barangay Cabaroan, The Simpsons for Caupasan, The Incredibles for Nagaparan, Powerpuff Girls for Danglas, Minions for Pangal, Peppa Pig for Abaquid, and The Smurfs for Padangitan.
The Danglas Belenismo is open to the public from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
