DAR DavOcc project irrigates remote community

MALITA, Davao Occidental (PIA) — The Department of Agrarian Reform of Davao Occidental has turned over a complete Solar Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) worth nearly P1.5 million to the Malaway Farmers Marketing Cooperative (MAFAMCO) of Barangay Kinangan in Malita town, Davao Occidental.

The facility is under DAR’s Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Program (CRFPSP), which is specifically designed to provide sufficient irrigation water for the diverse crops of the local farmers.

The project is a significant milestone for MAFAMCO being in a remote community with water scarcity.

“This is a dream come true,” shared MAFAMCO chairperson Susan M. Parcasio, as she expressed gratitude to “DAR and everyone involved in making this project a reality.”

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Terso D. Gregorio, Sr. of DAR Davao Occidental emphasized that the agency’s commitment extends beyond providing land tenure services as it also aims to enhance productivity through various support initiatives.

DAR Davao Occidental said that the irrigation project will eventually supply household water to the community.

The facility was also materialized through the support of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and local government units (LGUs), which are all “dedicated to uplifting the farmer organizations and improving the livelihoods of community members.”

Aside from the irrigation project, MAFAMCO has also benefited from the Village Level Farm-focused Enterprise Development (VLFED) Program where they received support to enhance their banana chips production. (CLC/PIA DavOcc/DAR DavOcc)
