Davao City celebrates Bible Month

DAVAO CITY—Several churches and denominations in Davao City are set to celebrate the National Bible Month this January.

Rev. Rueland Badoy, chairman of the Davao City Ministers Fellowship and co-convenor of the Bible month said Davao City joins the whole Philippines in celebrating the National Bible month.

“It is anchored on Presidential Proclamation 124 and Republic Act 11163 and we also have the ordinance of the City Council as well,” Badoy said.

Under the City Council ordinance approved last December it cited that the Bible month is an annual observance that promotes the teachings, values and wisdom of the Bible as part of Davao cultural and moral development.

“The City Ordinance will strengthen our celebration every year Councilor Pilar Braga used to pass a resolution in support of the bible month last year the Council passed a resolution we are very happy,” Badoy said.

“On the part of the Church and the faithful it brings great joy that we work hand-in-hand with the city government of Davao, with the local governments because it strengthens our moral recovery, the unity of the people we need the support of the government to promote the word of God,” says Fr. Ritsche Gamaya, director Bible Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Davao and co-convenor of the National Bible Month in the city.

Fr. Gamaya said there will be different activities during the Bible Month to promote the word of God as a source of hope. Among these events is a youth gathering on January 18 which will be attended by youth participants from the archdiocese.

“We also have in our parishes, in our GKKs, even in the private and government offices, me and Pastor Badoy we visit to encourage not just the reading of the Bible but also listening to one another, bible enthronement, liturgical bible study. Even families can do it,” Fr. Gamaya said.

Rev. Badoy said there are probably a hundred churches involved in the National Bible Month.

Among these include members of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches, National Council of Churches of the Philippines.

This year’s National Bible Month celebration theme is “God’s World Source of HOPE (Harmony, Obedience, Peace, Empowerment). (RGA)
