Davao City Youth Dev’t. Office strengthens community visits

DAVAO CITY—The Davao City Youth Development Office (DCYDO) is going to the 182 barangays of Davao City as part of its Rampa program to promote disaster risk reduction management (DRRM) and environmental advocacies.

“We started our Rampa or the barangay visitation last February 17  of which we visit every barangay of the city, currently we visited 160 barangays already,” says Emmanuel Crismas, operations head of the Davao City Youth Development Office.

The Rampa is held in partnership with Sangguniang Kabataan Federation in Davao City led by SK Federation president Kristine John Abdul Mercado.

“Part of our objectives is to talk to  and check the SK chairperson or  the SK council in each barangay about their advocacies particularly on disaster response and disaster risk reduction and management,” Crismas said.

Forefront on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management

He said that part of their advocacy in the DCYDO is for the youth to be at the forefront of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management. Their Rampa visits allows them to assess on how the SK in the barangays is responsive to their DRRM focus.

“During our discussions we learned that not all of them (Sangguniang Kabataan councils) actually have programs or activities related to disaster risk reduction and management that is why on March 18 and March 25 in partnership with the office of Councilor (Myrna Dalodo) Ortiz we conducted two batches of #usapangsustainability,” Crismas said.

The #usapangsustainability forum discussed best practices on environmental advocacies and DRRM.

“This dialogue with the SK officials in the barangay helps us in ensuring or prioritizing environmental activities or programs and sustainable responses related to disaster risk reduction and management,” Crismas said, (PIA/RG Alama)
