Davao del Sur ecotourism sites most visited destinations in Davao Adventure Challenge

DAVAO CITY (PIA)—The ongoing Davao Adventure Challenge (DAC) recent record shows that Davao del Sur ecotourism sites are the most visited destinations.

The DAC is a flagship program of the Department of Tourism Region XI that aims to promote diverse and thrilling adventure activities in different ecotourism sites across the region.

For the initial staging of the DAC, participating adventurers can choose to go on 15 adventures in Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, and Davao City.

Davao del Sur adventures, on the other hand, include hiking in Mt. Dinor in Sta. Cruz and Mt. Apo, water tubing in Sibulan River, Sta. Cruz, spelunking in Sub’on cave in Matanao. Three of these were cited as the most visited in the DAC.

“The top three of all attractions in the Davao Adventure Challenge are Mt. Dinor, Mt. Apo, and Sub’on in Matanao,” said Kerwin Joseph Elijay, head of the Provincial Tourism Office of Davao del Sur.

Being an insurgency-free province is an advantage of the province of Davao del Sur in developing its tourism industry.

“These ecotourism sites were once infested by the NPA’s (New People’s Army), but now that we are insurgency-free, we can now be assured that these places are peaceful,” Elijay added.

Elijay says for next year’s DAC they are proposing to include Bululuon Cave in Matanao and waterfalls in the boundary of Bansalan and Makilala (North Cotabato).

The DAC will run until February 28, 2025. (RGA/ PIA)
